Every drum birthing weekend is unique but a general outline of what you can expect is given below.

Your drum birthing weekend will be a time of ceremony and gratitude, working in sacred space and in nature, connecting to the Ash Tree and Spirit of Stag who have come together with you to create your drum.

We will labour together with laughter and joy, there may be tears too that need to be woven into this mirror of you. So we will dream into being this magical partner for the rest of your life, your own sacred spirit drum

To complete the bonding at the end of the weekend we will take you on a guided journey to meet the spirit of your drum and we will bless the drum in a sacred ceremony as you take the first steps on your new path together. (This may be an outdoor ceremony dependent on weather conditions)

All drums are made in the traditional way, using lacing cut from the same hide, thus keeping the spirit of the Stag within the drum, and within ceremony to honour the spirit of the Stag and the Ash Tree that gave of themselves to bring this sacred medicine tool into being. Your own drum is a guide, healer, teacher and friend that guides you on a special journey of inner exploration.

All our drums are made from ethicly sourced Stag/ Red Deer Hides and 16" Ash Hoops.

Spirit of Stag

In Celtic mythology, the stag holds a revered and powerful position, embodying various symbolic meanings and associations. The stag represents strength, virility, and nobility. It is often seen as a creature of the wilderness, embodying the untamed and primal forces of nature.

Stag is also closely linked to Cernunnos, the Horned God of Celtic mythology. Cernunnos himself is depicted with antlers, and is associated with fertility, abundance, and the cycle of life. His connection to the stag symbolises his dominion over the wild and his role as a guardian of the animal kingdom.

The stag and Cernunnos are intertwined, representing the sacred masculine energy, the vitality of the natural world, and the cyclical rhythms of existence. The stag's image serves as a reminder of the deep connection between humans and the wild, and the harmonious balance between humanity and the animal realm.

Spirit of Ash

In Celtic mythology, the ash tree is revered for its strength, wisdom, and connection to the Otherworld. It is often seen as a portal to the Otherworld, facilitating communication with the spiritual dimensions. The ash tree symbolizes balance and is associated with fire, masculinity, and rebirth. It is also linked to several Celtic deities and is considered one of the three sacred trees of the Druids, alongside the oak and hawthorn. The ash tree's deep roots and branches symbolize grounding and stability, respectively, and it is believed to have medicinal properties. The ash tree's significance extends to its role in the Celtic Tree of Life, representing the interconnectedness of all existence.

Every drum birthing weekend is unique but a general outline of what you can expect is given below

Birth your own traditional style drum, on the land & held by the elements

Below is an outline of what to expect from this magical drum birthing journey – this will effortlessly unfold and may change to suit the needs of the group (and maybe the weather!) as guided by the spirits of the drum and of place, to draw in all that we need.

We will be staying at the lovely rural escape of Lime Tree Farm.
Lime Tree Farm is many things to many different people.
Whether it is meditation and wellbeing in the Stone Circle, playing music in the Round House, or storytelling around the fire on a Summer evening, Lime Tree is a magical place of solace and rejuvenation.
Set in wildflower meadows and surrounded by ancient woodlands and wildlife ponds, it is the perfect place to be at one with nature in an unspoilt landscape.

After you have arrived and settled in on Friday we will start our time together by gathering in circle to create sacred space.
You will take your first steps on your drum journey as we begin with a ceremony of prayer and a blessing for the animal which has given its skin for your drum and the tree that gave its body to create the frame which acts as the skeleton of your drum.

You will have the opportunity to add your own herbs and crystals to the soaking waters if you wish.

As the skins soak overnight you will begin to dream into your personal journey of creation until the next day when we begin the process of birthing your special allies.

Accompanied by music, drumming, guided journeys and drum stories we will spend Saturday undertaking the slow and steady process of lacing the hide to the frame and ring.

We will spiral around and around easing the skin to stretch itself into this new form it is taking until finally it reaches its perfect tension – becoming drum.

Your newly birthed drums will spend the night in the candle lit Round House where they will be cradled by the ancestral spirits that reside there.

On Sunday morning you will spend some special ceremonial time at the stone circle bonding with your newly birthed spirit drum.
You will then be invited to take a Medicine Walk connecting with the land and your spirit drum, setting your intention to be gifted a piece of windfall wood that will be crafted into a beater later in the day.

In the afternoon we will complete our retreat with a special ceremony to bless and welcome your new drum ally and you will be guided on a shamanic drummed journey to meet the spirit of your drum.

Then as you leave these lands to return to your homes the waiting begins, as the drums start their gentle and steady process of drying over the next seven days until you hear their voices for the first time.
